Tools, Tips, & Advice for Parents of College-Bound Students

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your teen’s college transition, you’re not alone. And if your child is heading to college, you’re probably feeling even more unsure about what comes next.

Hi, I’m Jen — the mom behind The College Mom Collective. And not too long ago, I was exactly where you are.

I Know What This Season Really Feels Like

When my daughter committed to an out-of-state university (hundreds of miles away), I was excited for her — but privately, I was stressed and unsure if this would be the right choice.

There were endless logistics, late-night worry spirals, packing lists that made my head spin, and a million small decisions and action items no one warned me about. I spent hours digging through forums, Facebook groups, and outdated websites trying to figure everything out.

And I remember thinking: Why isn’t there a clear, parent-focused resource for this?

That’s Why I Created The College Mom Collective

Everything I wished I had during that time — clear guidance, real-life insight, emotional reassurance, and practical checklists — I created here.

This space exists to help parents find:

  • reliable, up-to-date information
  • actionable guidance for each stage of the college journey
  • support for out-of-state parents who often lack insider information
  • tips on applications, housing, move-in, and what to expect during freshman year
  • the emotional tools to navigate this huge transition as a parent

My goal is simple: To make the college transition calmer, clearer, and more manageable for every parent.

You Don’t Have to Go It Alone

Here, you’ll find vetted resources, practical advice, real stories, and sometimes the emotional validation no one else talks about.

Whether your teen is starting applications or packing for move-in day, I’m here to help you feel grounded, informed, and confident.

You’re doing a great job — and you’re in the right place.

About Our Founder

Jen, MBA, Founder, The College Mom Collective

For more than 20 years, I worked in marketing strategy, digital marketing, content creation, and brand development, helping businesses grow through storytelling and connection. Although I valued the work, years in agency and in-house roles eventually led to burnout—and a desire to build something more personal, purposeful, and connected to real life.

That desire for something more meaningful became clear when I experienced the college process from a parent’s perspective. While there was no shortage of information for students, parents were often left to navigate timelines, decisions, and logistics on their own. I saw a clear need for parent-focused guidance.

Today, I combine my professional background with my lived experience to help parents feel informed, supported, and calmer throughout the college journey—because this transition is big for your child… but it’s big for you, too.

“The journey is part of the experience—an expression of the seriousness of one’s intent. One doesn’t take the A train to Mecca.”
